Practical notes

A postcode is the start of a coverage check

Test the places you use, not only a national headline.

Map the routine

Check home, work, common routes and any important indoor location. A postcode can contain different building types and terrain. Maps are predictions, not measurements taken inside your room.

Know what is being mapped

Distinguish outdoor and indoor coverage, voice and data, and 4G or 5G. Population coverage is different from geographic coverage. Use the provider checker alongside Ofcom’s mobile coverage tool.

The phone matters

Supported bands, software, voice over 4G and Wi-Fi calling can change the result. A 5G logo does not promise a particular speed or a reliable indoor call.

Keep useful evidence

Record location, time, device model and whether the issue is calls, messages or data. Compare the same place at different times. This helps official support identify congestion, an outage or a device-related issue.

Before you act

Confirm current details directly with the official provider. Our information is independent, general and free of a guidance fee. We do not sell or arrange services.
