Read the contract wording
Locate the amount, date and mechanism of any scheduled change. Keep the contract summary and original notification. A minimum term is not necessarily a promise that every charge stays unchanged.
The newer rule
Ofcom rules effective from 17 January 2025 prohibit inflation-linked or percentage-based rises in new contracts. Scheduled increases must instead be stated upfront in pounds and pence with clear timing. This does not mean every new contract has no rise.
Older agreements
Existing terms and the date of a renewal or upgrade matter. Do not apply a new-contract rule to an older arrangement without checking the documents. Separate airtime changes from device repayments and optional services.
Ask about a disputed change
If a rise was not clearly set out or exceeds the agreed change, ask the provider to explain the notice and any right to leave. The exact circumstances matter; our general information is not a determination of your rights.
